79%

I just heard a report which said that 79% of Americans want us to move on. Count me in. I want to lift the plastic carbon sheet on my magic slate, and start over. I want to see art on Facebook again. I want to see people stop spouting insane conspiracy theories. I want people to stop defending tyranny and tantrums. I want being snappy and uncivil to be considered rude again. So just stop it. Knock it off.

Can't we just hit a magical "reset" button? I'm trying mightily to reset. We've got a lot of work to do, to make this country a more fair place for everyone. We've got over 600 children who need to be returned to their parents. We've seriously damaged our planet. We've got racism and sexism. We've got income inequality. We've got a pandemic to fight. We've got people starving. We've got people who are unemployed. We've got restaurants and small businesses struggling. We have health workers battling in overcrowded hospitals, risking their lives. We've got no significant testing and tracing program. We've got shortages of protective gear for medical professionals on the front lines. All four burners on the stove are flaming. And, there's an oven fire, too.

So, stop pouting. Stop listening to Mike Pompeo, that giant sack of wormy frijoles. It's over and done.

Let the healing begin.

It's not going to be easy, as you can tell from my comment a few sentences back. There will be bitterness. It can't be helped. Let us unite, as a country, over the struggle to defeat the coronavirus. Let's learn to ignore. Man, I'm sure trying. I keep telling myself that it takes courage to tamp it down, and to step up. I pray for that courage every single day, because I have to be an example to all of the kids that I know. They are looking to us, to let their healing begin, too.

Surgery Week Two
